Nepal entry route · no visa application

No visa form—but four checks before treatment travel.

A Nepali citizen entering India from Nepal by land or air generally does not need a passport or visa, but must meet the official identity and route conditions. Every accompanying traveller is checked separately.

01Hospital accepts the case

Travel only after the hospital confirms the specialist, appointment, expected stay and written estimate.

02Carry an accepted identity document

The official options include a Nepali passport, citizenship certificate or voter identification card. Children have separate document provisions.

03Check the actual route

The exemption applies when entering from Nepal by land or air. Different passport or visa conditions can apply when arriving through another country; airlines may also set boarding-document checks.

04Check every companion

A non-Nepali attendant may need an Indian visa. Confirm identity, route, hospital documents and fit-to-travel advice for every person before booking.

Why families cross

For super-speciality care, India is next door.

Nepal’s hospitals manage a great deal close to home. For advanced super-speciality programmes — radiation therapy, transplant medicine, complex cardiac, cancer and neuro surgery — thousands of Nepali families travel to India every year, for gastroenterology and liver care especially. CureYatra makes that journey planned instead of improvised.

  • Open border under the India–Nepal treaty — generally no visa when official identity and route conditions are met, for Nepali citizens.
  • Carry an accepted original identity document for the actual route; airlines can apply additional boarding-document checks, so these are confirmed before ticketing.
  • Pay in INR against the hospital’s written invoice. NPR is pegged to INR, while banks and card providers may still apply their own conversion rates and charges.
  • Hindi is widely understood, and your CureYatra coordinator speaks Nepali.
  • Familiar food, dal-bhat included — we book stays near the hospital with kitchens where possible.
  • After you return, video follow-ups with the same doctor, coordinated with your physician in Nepal.

Nepal patient desk

A cross-border plan built for Nepali families.

Nepali patients often have a simpler entry route, but identity documents, the Indian city, hospital estimate, Nepali-language coordination and return follow-up still need to be agreed before travel.

Official entry route

A Nepali citizen entering from Nepal by land or air generally does not need a passport or visa, but must carry an identity document accepted by the Government of India. The route and every companion’s nationality are checked before booking.

Evidence-led health profile · Nepal

Five major health priorities — using one consistent global standard.

WHO’s latest comparable country cause-of-death release currently estimates 2021. These five cards rank distinct, treatment-relevant areas from the disclosed 18-condition comparison set; they are not presented as WHO’s own published “top five” table. IARC’s newer GLOBOCAN 2024 estimates were released in July 2026.

Prepare the right records for the condition—not a generic file.

These checklists translate the country evidence into a useful first specialist review. They do not imply that treatment abroad is required.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Pulmonary-function tests, chest imaging, oxygen history, admission summaries and inhaler or medicine list.

Ischaemic heart disease

ECG, echocardiogram, angiogram images, cardiac blood tests and the cardiologist’s latest advice.

Tuberculosis

TB test results, chest imaging, culture or molecular reports, treatment history and current medicines.

Cancer

Pathology, immunohistochemistry, staging scans, treatment history and the latest oncology note.

Stroke

CT or MRI images, stroke timeline, vascular and cardiac tests, rehabilitation notes and current medicines.

Population-level estimates describe health burden; they do not diagnose a person, predict an outcome or establish a need to travel. WHO estimates are modelled and rounded here for readability. IARC cancer values are modelled estimates. A treating specialist must review the patient’s own records before any medical or travel decision.

What the evidence means · Nepal

Use national context to prepare better questions—not to self-diagnose.

Within a consistent set of clinically distinct causes, WHO’s latest country estimates place Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Ischaemic heart disease and Tuberculosis at the front of Nepal’s health profile. The estimates are approximately 21,700 deaths, 21,100 deaths and 17,900 deaths in 2021 respectively. They show population burden, not what any individual patient needs.

IARC’s GLOBOCAN 2024 profile estimates 24,499 new cancer cases and 17,213 cancer deaths; Stomach, Oesophagus and Breast lead by estimated new-case count. For a treatment enquiry, send the diagnosis, dated reports, original images and current medicines first; hospital specialists decide suitability, timing and the written estimate.

Primary evidence: WHO Global Health Estimates 2021 and IARC GLOBOCAN 2024, reviewed 5 August 2026. Estimates are population-level context only.

Questions from Nepal

Asked on every first call.

What identity and entry rules apply to travellers from Nepal?
Citizens of Nepal generally do not require an Indian visa when the official nationality, identity-document and route conditions are met. We verify the current document requirements before travel; airlines, border authorities and official government guidance remain authoritative.
How do I pay from Nepal?
The NPR 5,000 CureYatra case-coordination fee is paid with the reports before hospital submission. Medical charges are separate and paid directly to the selected hospital under its written estimate and confirmed payment instructions.
Will the doctors understand us?
Consultations run in English and Hindi, which most Nepali families manage comfortably — and Nepali-language coordination or interpreter support can be confirmed before the relevant consultation.
When can treatment and follow-up be scheduled?
The hospital confirms timing only after specialist review and acceptance of the case. Travel follows visa confirmation where applicable and fit-to-travel advice. After return to Nepal, available video follow-up is coordinated with the treating hospital.
What happens after I return to Nepal?
You leave with a full discharge summary and medicines for the journey. We schedule video follow-ups with your treating doctor, courier reports both ways, and coordinate with your physician in Kathmandu, Pokhara or wherever home is.

Nepal patient desk · direct enquiry

Send your case from Nepal — the first enquiry is free.

Tell us the diagnosis area and how to reach you. A coordinator replies on WhatsApp or email, explains how to share reports securely, and only then are suitable hospitals asked for a written clinical plan and their own estimate.

  • The first enquiry costs nothing. The NPR 5,000 annual case-coordination fee is requested only if you decide to proceed.
  • No Indian visa for Nepali citizens entering from Nepal, subject to the official identity-document and route conditions.
  • Nepali-language coordination, and consultations in English or Hindi.
  • You pay the hospital directly against its own written invoice — never CureYatra.
  • No hospital, price, timing or treatment outcome is guaranteed here; the hospital’s written documents always prevail.
