Choosing a hospital in India as a Nepali patient

We do not publish a ranked list of the best hospitals, and you should be sceptical of anyone who does — those lists usually reflect who pays the publisher. What we can give you is the method serious families use to compare, and the questions that separate a real answer from a brochure.

  • No paid rankings here
  • Match the sub-speciality, not the brand
  • Ask everything in writing

General information for planning, not medical advice. Diagnosis and treatment decisions rest with the treating doctors and hospitals.

How to compare, honestly

Match the sub-speciality to the diagnosis

A hospital with an outstanding cardiac programme is not automatically the right place for a rare sarcoma or a paediatric liver transplant. The unit matters more than the institution's name.

Ask about volume in your specific procedure

How many of this operation does this unit do in a year? It is a fair question, it is asked by referring doctors everywhere, and a good unit answers it without defensiveness.

Check accreditation, then check what it covers

NABH and JCI accreditation are meaningful signals about process and safety. They are not a statement about the individual surgeon who will operate on you.

Weigh the city, not just the hospital

For a long treatment the cost of accommodation, food and transport in that city is a real part of the total. Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata differ meaningfully.

Questions to put in writing

Ask these of any hospital, whether or not you work with us.

  1. 01
    Who will actually treat me?

The named consultant, their specialty, and who operates or prescribes if that consultant is unavailable.

  2. 02
Will the case go to a multi-disciplinary board?

For cancer and complex surgery this is a meaningful quality marker.

  3. 03
    What does the estimate assume?

Length of stay, ICU days, implant or drug brand, and number of cycles or fractions. An estimate without stated assumptions cannot be compared with another one.

  4. 04
What happens if the course is complicated?

How is the additional cost handled, and who informs the family before it is incurred.

  5. 05
What can be done in Nepal afterwards?

A hospital that answers this properly is thinking about your case rather than your admission.

What CureYatra will and will not do here

  • We send your case to hospitals that fit the diagnosis and ask each for a written response
  • We put the responses in front of you and explain what differs between them
  • You choose the hospital — always
  • We do not rank hospitals publicly, and we do not present a paid placement as a recommendation
  • We do not claim partnerships, exclusivity or guaranteed admission with any hospital
  • Your medical payment goes directly to the hospital you choose, against its own invoice

We publish no prices on this page. Any figure quoted before a specialist has read your reports is a guess, and a guess is a bad thing to plan a family’s finances around. What we do instead is obtain the hospital’s own written estimate, in its own format, with its assumptions stated — before you decide whether to travel. See how CureYatra handles costs.

What to have ready

Do not attach medical records to the form below. Send a short enquiry first and we will reply with secure sharing instructions and a written consent step.

  • Complete medical reports, so the shortlist is built on the diagnosis rather than on guesswork
  • The patient's age and general condition, including whether they can travel and sit through a flight
  • Your realistic budget range, stated honestly — it changes which units are worth approaching
  • Whether a family member can stay for the full duration, and for how long
  • Any city preference, and whether relatives in India could help with accommodation

Case-coordination fee · Nepal

NPR 5,000 per patient, per year — coordination only.

Inclusive of applicable taxes. The first enquiry is free; the fee is requested only when you decide to proceed, together with the reports and record-sharing consent. Every hospital, doctor, medicine, implant, diagnostic and travel charge is separate and paid by you directly to the provider. Terms & Conditions apply.

Questions Nepali families ask

Which is the best hospital in India for a Nepali patient?

There is no single answer, and a website that gives you one is selling placement. The right hospital depends on your diagnosis, the sub-speciality it needs, your budget and how long you can stay. We shortlist against those four things.

Are hospitals paying CureYatra to recommend them?

Our published charge to the patient is NPR 5,000 per patient per year for coordination. Hospitals are asked to respond to your case in writing, and you pay them directly. If a commercial arrangement ever applied to your case, you are entitled to ask and to be told.

Does JCI or NABH accreditation guarantee good treatment?

It is a meaningful signal about safety processes and systems, not a guarantee about an individual doctor or an individual outcome. Use it as one filter among several.

Should I choose the cheapest estimate?

Only after checking that the estimates assume the same thing. The cheapest figure is often the one with the fewest assumptions stated, which makes it the least reliable.

Can I speak to the doctor before travelling?

Often a video consultation can be arranged once the reports have been reviewed. Ask for it — hearing the surgeon explain the plan in their own words is worth more than any brochure.

Nepal patient desk · direct enquiry

Send your case from Nepal — the first enquiry is free.

Tell us the diagnosis area and how to reach you. A coordinator replies on WhatsApp or email, explains how to share reports securely, and only then are suitable hospitals asked for a written clinical plan and their own estimate.

  • The first enquiry costs nothing. The NPR 5,000 annual case-coordination fee is requested only if you decide to proceed.
  • No Indian visa for Nepali citizens entering from Nepal, subject to the official identity-document and route conditions.
  • Nepali-language coordination, and consultations in English or Hindi.
  • You pay the hospital directly against its own written invoice — never CureYatra.
  • No hospital, price, timing or treatment outcome is guaranteed here; the hospital’s written documents always prevail.
