Heart bypass and valve surgery cost in India for Nepali patients

Cardiac surgery is the one area where estimates are relatively predictable — provided the hospital states which procedure, which implant and how many ICU days it has assumed. Where families are caught out is when one of those three is left blank.

  • Ask which valve or stent, by name
  • Ask how many ICU days are assumed
  • Written hospital estimate before travel

Why cardiac care is a leading reason Nepali patients travel

Heart disease is at the top of Nepal's mortality picture, and the diagnostic step is often available at home while the intervention is not.

Ischaemic heart disease is a leading cause of death in Nepal

WHO's comparable 2021 estimates put it at roughly 21,100 deaths — second only to COPD in the disclosed comparison set.

Stroke sits in the same top five

Roughly 13,600 deaths in the same estimates, from largely the same risk cluster — hypertension, diabetes, tobacco.

Diagnosis at home, intervention across the border

Angiography is widely available in Kathmandu and the larger cities. The decision families face is usually where to have the intervention that the angiogram recommends, not where to have the angiogram.

What the pathway involves

General description only. The cardiologist and cardiac surgeon decide the procedure.

  1. 01
    Review of the angiogram

The films, not just the report. Whether the recommendation is stenting or surgery is often the single most valuable output of a second opinion.

  2. 02
    Angioplasty and stenting

A catheter procedure with a short stay. Stent type and number are the cost variables.

  3. 03
    Coronary artery bypass

Open surgery, several ICU days and a ward stay. Off-pump versus on-pump and the number of grafts affect both the operation and the recovery.

  4. 04
    Valve repair or replacement

Repair where possible; otherwise mechanical or tissue valve — a decision with lifelong consequences for anticoagulation, and different prices.

  5. 05
    Rehabilitation and anticoagulation

The follow-up regime, especially after a mechanical valve, must be arranged with a doctor in Nepal before discharge.

What actually moves the number

  • Which procedure: angioplasty, CABG, valve repair, valve replacement, or a combined procedure
  • Number of grafts, or number and type of stents
  • Mechanical versus tissue valve, and the specific implant brand
  • Assumed ICU days and whether ventilation beyond the routine is priced in
  • Left ventricular function and other organ involvement — kidney and lung status change the risk and the stay
  • Whether a pacemaker or device is required
  • Room category and hospital tier

What a written estimate usually covers

  • Surgeon, anaesthesia, theatre and perfusion charges
  • A stated number of ICU and ward days
  • The named implant — valve, stent or graft material
  • Routine post-operative investigations during the stay

What sits outside it

  • Additional ICU days, re-exploration or a prolonged ventilation episode
  • Dialysis support if kidney function deteriorates
  • Medication after discharge, including long-term anticoagulation
  • Companion accommodation and living costs

We publish no prices on this page. Any figure quoted before a specialist has read your reports is a guess, and a guess is a bad thing to plan a family’s finances around. What we do instead is obtain the hospital’s own written estimate, in its own format, with its assumptions stated — before you decide whether to travel. See how CureYatra handles costs.

What to send us before anything else

Do not attach medical records to the form below. Send a short enquiry first and we will reply with secure sharing instructions and a written consent step.

  • Angiogram report and, importantly, the angiogram images on CD
  • Echocardiogram report with ejection fraction
  • ECG, and any stress test or CT coronary angiogram
  • Full blood work, kidney function and diabetes control record
  • List of current cardiac medicines with doses

Case-coordination fee · Nepal

NPR 5,000 per patient, per year — coordination only.

Inclusive of applicable taxes. The first enquiry is free; the fee is requested only when you decide to proceed, together with the reports and record-sharing consent. Every hospital, doctor, medicine, implant, diagnostic and travel charge is separate and paid by you directly to the provider. Terms & Conditions apply.

Questions Nepali families ask

How much does bypass surgery cost in India for a Nepali patient?

The hospital states it in writing once the cardiologist has reviewed the angiogram. We do not publish a number here. What we insist on is that the estimate names the procedure, the implant and the assumed ICU days — an estimate missing any of those is not comparable to another one.

Should I have angioplasty or bypass?

That is a clinical decision made from your angiogram images by a cardiologist and cardiac surgeon, and it is one of the most common places where a written second opinion changes the plan. We can arrange the review; we cannot and will not advise on it.

Mechanical or tissue valve?

The trade-off is durability against lifelong blood-thinning, and it depends heavily on age and circumstances. Ask the surgeon to explain the reasoning in writing, because the follow-up burden after you return to Nepal differs sharply between the two.

How soon can surgery be scheduled?

For a stable patient with complete reports, cardiac units usually respond quickly. Urgent cases are triaged by the hospital, not by us, and no timeline on this website is a promise.

Can I fly after cardiac surgery?

Fitness to fly is certified by the treating team, not by a facilitator. Build a few days of buffer into your return plan rather than booking a fixed return date before surgery.

Nepal patient desk · direct enquiry

Send your case from Nepal — the first enquiry is free.

Tell us the diagnosis area and how to reach you. A coordinator replies on WhatsApp or email, explains how to share reports securely, and only then are suitable hospitals asked for a written clinical plan and their own estimate.

  • The first enquiry costs nothing. The NPR 5,000 annual case-coordination fee is requested only if you decide to proceed.
  • No Indian visa for Nepali citizens entering from Nepal, subject to the official identity-document and route conditions.
  • Nepali-language coordination, and consultations in English or Hindi.
  • You pay the hospital directly against its own written invoice — never CureYatra.
  • No hospital, price, timing or treatment outcome is guaranteed here; the hospital’s written documents always prevail.
