Cervical cancer treatment in India for Nepali patients

Cervical cancer is among Nepal's leading estimated cancer sites and one of the most treatable when found early. The treatment split — surgery for early disease, chemoradiation with brachytherapy for locally advanced disease — is decided by stage, so staging is where the money and the time should go first.

  • Stage decides surgery vs chemoradiation
  • Brachytherapy capacity is worth asking about
  • Highly treatable when found early

The Nepal picture

Cervix is among Nepal's top five estimated cancer sites

GLOBOCAN 2024 estimates list cervix alongside stomach, oesophagus, breast and liver at the head of the national burden.

It is one of the few largely preventable cancers

HPV vaccination and screening change the picture over a generation. For a woman already diagnosed, that is not the useful conversation — but it is worth raising with the rest of the family.

Radiotherapy access shapes where women are treated

Locally advanced disease is treated with chemoradiation and brachytherapy together. Whichever centre you choose, ask specifically whether brachytherapy is done on site.

What treatment usually involves

General description. The gynaecologic oncologist decides your plan.

  1. 01
    Examination and staging

Clinical examination under anaesthesia in some cases, plus MRI of the pelvis and CT or PET-CT for nodal assessment.

  2. 02
    Surgery for early disease

Radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection, open or minimal-access depending on the case.

  3. 03
    Chemoradiation for locally advanced disease

External beam radiotherapy with concurrent chemotherapy — the standard of care in this group.

  4. 04
    Brachytherapy

Internal radiotherapy that follows external beam treatment in locally advanced disease. It is an essential component, not an optional extra, and not every centre offers it.

  5. 05
    Follow-up

Regular examination and imaging, much of which can be arranged with a gynaecologist in Nepal after the active phase.

What moves the cost

  • Stage at diagnosis
  • Surgery versus chemoradiation as the primary treatment
  • Radiotherapy technique, number of fractions and whether brachytherapy is included
  • Number of concurrent chemotherapy cycles
  • Length of stay and whether treatment can be given as a daycase
  • Management of any urinary or bowel complication

We publish no prices on this page. Any figure quoted before a specialist has read your reports is a guess, and a guess is a bad thing to plan a family’s finances around. What we do instead is obtain the hospital’s own written estimate, in its own format, with its assumptions stated — before you decide whether to travel. See how CureYatra handles costs.

What to send us before anything else

Do not attach medical records to the form below. Send a short enquiry first and we will reply with secure sharing instructions and a written consent step.

  • Biopsy or histopathology report
  • MRI of the pelvis, with images
  • Any CT or PET-CT already done
  • Blood reports and kidney function tests
  • Details of any treatment already started

Questions Nepali families ask

Do I need surgery or radiotherapy?

It depends on stage. Early disease is often treated surgically; locally advanced disease is treated with chemoradiation and brachytherapy rather than surgery. Getting this decision right is the strongest argument for a proper staging workup and a specialist opinion.

What is brachytherapy and why does it keep being mentioned?

It is internal radiotherapy delivered close to the tumour, and in locally advanced cervical cancer it is a necessary part of curative treatment rather than an add-on. Ask any centre you are considering whether it is available on site.

How long will treatment take?

A chemoradiation and brachytherapy course typically runs over several weeks of near-daily attendance, which means staying near the hospital rather than travelling back and forth. Plan accommodation accordingly.

Can a female doctor be requested?

Yes, and it is a reasonable request to make at the time of the enquiry rather than on arrival. We pass it on with the case; availability is the hospital's to confirm.

What will it cost?

The hospital states it in writing after reviewing your reports. We publish no figures.

Nepal patient desk · direct enquiry

Send your case from Nepal — the first enquiry is free.

Tell us the diagnosis area and how to reach you. A coordinator replies on WhatsApp or email, explains how to share reports securely, and only then are suitable hospitals asked for a written clinical plan and their own estimate.

  • The first enquiry costs nothing. The NPR 5,000 annual case-coordination fee is requested only if you decide to proceed.
  • No Indian visa for Nepali citizens entering from Nepal, subject to the official identity-document and route conditions.
  • Nepali-language coordination, and consultations in English or Hindi.
  • You pay the hospital directly against its own written invoice — never CureYatra.
  • No hospital, price, timing or treatment outcome is guaranteed here; the hospital’s written documents always prevail.
